Depending on the subject, we may review publicly reported contracts, business ownership, property records, competition winnings, brand partnerships, court documents and statements from the person or their representatives.
What public income does not prove
Gross earnings are not the same as personal wealth. Taxes, commissions, business expenses, debt, shared ownership, investment gains and losses can materially change the result.
How figures are presented
When no authoritative number exists, we describe the figure as an estimate or reported claim. We may analyse whether a widely repeated number appears plausible, but we should not present speculation as certainty.
Why estimates change
Careers, asset prices, contracts and business interests change over time. Older articles may therefore be updated when reliable new information becomes available.
